bat-girl!

she's always been one of my favorites, so here is an animation-y take on her. this was also one of my early attempts to get used to the stylus on the iPhone. i took to it pretty quickly, since it combines a lot of what i enjoy about drawing with pencil, and allows me to do pen-and-ink pics without a lot of the limitations and pitfalls of working with pens and brushes directly.

old man

i wanted to sketch something a bit more "traditional" on the iPhone after doing so many superheroes, and stretch those muscles a bit (it has been literally years since i drew much more than a doodle on our dry-erase board to make my wife smile, so i still feel very stiff trying to get something that looks more "finished" or at least somewhat so), and this old guy was what came out.

enter sandman

because i just can't get enough of sketching superheroes, i did up this quick one of the Golden Age Sandman that's a bit noirish and spooky.

although i missed his original series and Justice Society appearances, given that it was around 40 years before I started reading comics, i was a huge  fan of the "Sandman Mystery Theater" series (which now i believe that you can find in collections and i would highly recommend checking them out if you haven't already).

the thing!

yet another superhero request, but what fun to draw. at some point i need to do one that is a bit more reminiscent of the old kirby or byrne things, since i took this one a bit more cartoon-y.

"another 'round, sweetheart"

i'm not entirely sure why this manifested out of my iPhone sketching hand, but here you have it. it's no one in particular, just a character study i guess.

another hero request

this one was a request that came from my brother-in-law after i had posted a couple superhero sketches. i was doing these from memory (and it's been a while since i perused a capes book) so Hal is a bit off model, but still i think it came out OK.

annoyed

this girl was a small part of a larger picture where she seemed annoyed at being in the rain, but i didn't like how the rest was turning out so i just cropped to her. i liked her expression for some reason.

this is the first iPhone sketch i did after getting my stylus, and it's still one of my favorites. Spidey was always one my favorite heroes to doodle when i was a kid.

my first request

after the wolverine sketch, my wife demanded that i do wonder woman, so here is her sketch. this one was also just a finger painted one, since i had yet to get my "pogo" stylus. not too "off-model" considering it was from memory.

(one of) my first iPhone sketch

got a sketchbook app on my iPhone, and this is one of the first things I did with it. i had one or two pretty terrible sketches that aren't worth posting prior to this, so this is what I think of as my first one. this was before i bought a stylus, so it's all done with my finger.
